Michael's death
Jamila Litchmore,Entertainment Coordinator

The June 30-July 6, 2009 issue of Youthlink had already been planned when news hit the world that pop icon Michael Jackson had died in an untimely manner on Thursday, June 25. There were few changes we could have made that late in the week but our cover was changed at the last minute, so the cover everyone saw on the Tuesday following his death wasn't what we had planned, but it became one of our most memorable. There was no sensationalism in the headline, it was simple. He was and is 'The King of Pop'. That week our interview with reggae soul artiste Cezar was also high on our agenda.

There is actually a never-before published article arising out of that interview, that gives various Jamaican artistes' reaction to Michael Jackson's death, titled, 'Remembering the King: Celebrity Edition'. Cezar commented on the nature of fans and fame after Jackson's death. "My perspective hasn't changed a whole lot, but the outpouring of emotion from real fans shows that this man was a cultural icon; it's devastating and it leaves a space that can never be filled. As it relates to fame, the world has now been forced to take a look at his work and his actual worth," Cezar said.
