Make it Bold for Ball
Racquel Muir,Youthlink Writer

It's that time of year again! Time to dress to impress, glam in gold and stun the rest as we go bold. Bat long lashes, flaunt smokey eyes and shimmer in shine using studs or glitter with these tried-and-true tips for your special night.

Foundation

Groom and fill in your brows before applying your foundation. Make sure the shades you have blend with your complexion. Apply all over the face and neck evenly. Then add a little loose powder for a cooler effect. Blush your cheeks with either a pink tone or a bronzer to keep you glowing.

Eyes

  • Pay keen attention to your eye make-up. You don't have to wear a shade that matches your dress. Instead, select a shade that complements it well. Use two different shades of the same colour or gold shimmer as the highlight.
  • Add the darker shade on your eyelids and the lighter shade as the highlight (under the brows). Blend the shades evenly so the eye shadow lines are not visible.
  • Line the eyes with a dark-brown or black eyeliner, or you can use a liquid liner for more emphasis.
  • To complete the look, put on some mascara for long lashes and more volume. Why not step out of the box and add false lashes for that fuller effect.
  • For glitter or gem, add sparkles to your tear ducts or, when applying the highlight, wet the brush then 'sweeten' the shadow under your brow. This technique intensifies your look.

Lips

  • Luxurious lipsticks with a hint of gloss add that 'lusciousness' to your make-up. Try even a rose red colour for your lips, depending on your skin tone, to give that Marilyn Monroe flare.
  • Bear in mind that if you're going dramatic on the lips, don't do the same with the eyes. Your make-up will look overwhelming, so choose either the lips or the eyes as the focal point.
