Mico Practising Primary and Junior High

Merging theory and practical for holistic education

Chad Bryan, Youthlink Writer

Very little information is available regarding the history of Mico Practising Primary and Junior High on Marescaux Road in Kingston, the school which shares a campus with The Mico University College. What is known is that the school had been moved from two previous locations and that it grew out of the Lady Mico Charity which founded the college for teachers in 1836.

It is understood that in 1931, the founder, A.J. Newman, wanted to establish a model school where teachers in training at the then Mico Teachers' College would have a place to practise, as well as an environment within which to conduct teaching and learning experiments. As a result of this vision, the school was born.
