Phoenix faces

Just like the phoenix, the fire bird in Greek mythology, 25-year-old make-up artist Jodiann Shirley lives to bring colour and newness to the faces of those who are willing to experiment with make-up. It's no wonder her fiancé, Kenroy Tucker, gave her that nickname, Phoenix. What motivated her to view people's faces as her own personal canvas? "I usually do the make-up of my friends and family, but it really all began last year when a friend of mine, Doreen Dawkins, on celebrating her 50th birthday, asked me to do her make-up. It was so well done that she, along with everyone else, encouraged me to do it."
Today Jodiann leaves you with tips on how to complete the top-three make-up trends of the season.
TREND 1: CAT EYES
The simplest trend that can be done with ease and little make-up. On Claudine's face, the usual base of concealer, foundation and face powder will be applied evenly before prettying up those eyes and focusing on her cheeks and lips. A dark-coloured face powder or blush is used to create the contour. By using a medium-size brush, lightly brush cheeks in an upward motion. To make your face appear slimmer, suck your cheeks in and apply the blush to the hollow in your cheeks. Then put on an after-glow powder to give it an even glow that will shimmer in light. Lightly line the lips with a lip liner of your choice and moisturize the lips with a lipgloss or lip balm. The lipstick, pink or red, is applied ensuring that the lip liner blends in with the lipstick. If your lips are naturally plum-like, add a lightly coloured shimmery pink or nude lipgloss.
TREND 2: POWER BROWS & SMOKING EYES
No longer are girls trying to remove the hair from their brows to achieve sexy stares; it's all about full, feathery brows. Try a fun new eyeshadow that is then applied to the corner of the eyes (near the tear duct) for dramatic effect. Smoky eyes, using dark metallic eye colour and power brows, are best for night-time. If you have eyebrows like Keniesha, the work may be less to create those powerful eyebrows we've seen on the catwalks of late, since her brows are already bright and arched. Using a brown or black eyeliner (or an eyeshadow/brow kit), depending on your complexion, colour into your brows. We've used Keniesha hair colour as reference. With this you have all the control to have them arched to your liking.
TREND 3: CONTOUR CHEEKS & ROSY LIPS
Lips capture the attention and cheeks hold it. Tamara's diamond face shape and deep-set eyes will make the cat-eye effect all the more noticeable. After applying concealer and blending with foundation to the entire face, the next step is to add primer over the eyelids. This forms the base of the eyeshadow and shows up the colour and marker more.
A black eye marker is applied around the eyes and lashes by gently pulling the lid upwards to apply to the inner rim and then to the upper lash line. This marker is also used to create a triangular look at the corner of the eyes (closer to the ears). You may also use a regular black, black-brown or brown pencil or eyeshadow to create this line.
Metallic eyeshadow is applied on the corner of the eyes (near the tear ducts); mascara is applied to add volume to those eyelashes and. voila, you have the playful kitten eyes.
