On the rise
When it rains it pours
Danelia Doyle,Youthlink Writer

Many entertainers dream of having their names become household names. Some rely heavily on raw talent and the hope that the 'god of music', or some other unforeseen power, will land them at the top of charts and have everyone singing their songs. Others depend on time and the notion that time is everything and when it's your time, it just is.

Loraine Seville, aka Raine Seville, however, has chosen a different route. She has attached her name to the up-and-coming heavy hitters in the producing game, Daseca, which is fast becoming a household name. Raine, the first lady of Daseca records, as she has already been dubbed, is like no other entertainer.

'DEW' RAINE

Stage name: Raine Seville

Age: 22

Sign: Leo

Mantra: "Live your dreams, crush the obstacles."

How she got started: "I was standing in the mall, waiting on some friends. While waiting, I was singing, and Serani was passing, heard me singing and approached me. Like they say, the rest is history," smiles Raine.

POURING RAINE

Since meeting Serani, Raine was introduced to the members of Daseca who, like Serani, recognised her obvious talent. So far, Raine has recorded 10 tracks and released two (Drive me Crazy and Rain a Fall). She plans to release her third song, Oh Yeah, and videos with both Serani and Bugle for the songs Naked and Reserve.

The former Wolmer's Trust High School for Girls student holds a degree in marketing and international business from the University of Technology. She briefly attended the Edna Manley College of the Visual and Performing Arts.

AFTERNOON SHOWERS

Youthlink (YL): How would you classify your music?

Raine: "'R&D', rhythm and dancehall, influenced by R&B, but grounded in dancehall."

YL: Will you limit yourself to being an R&D singer?

Raine:"I'll do anything, but I'll never go out of my comfort zone."

YL: We've seen the rise and fall of many 'newbies', what makes you different?

Raine: "I chose to do music, and I really feel within my heart that I have something to offer to the industry, that should be enough."

YL: Do you think being signed to Daseca records will determine the direction in which your career goes?

Raine: "(Laughs) I hope so! But they have a hype now and they have also earned respect in the industry, so whatever they come with, people look forward to."

YL: There has been a surge in the amount of money-related songs, those that seem to glorify the need to have a lot of money by any means necessary. What do you think about this?

Raine: "I think it's ambitious and can be viewed as a form of motivation."

SUN SHOWERS

YL: Finish these sentences. My friends always make fun of me because ...

Raine: "... they claim I'm slow, I get the jokes and everything else last."

I hate it when people ...

Raine: "... who are capable of making themselves better, don't."

A dating disaster for me is when a guy ...

Raine: ".. is always on his phone and pays me little attention."
