Focused,
determined, confident

To
place third in any event is quite an achievement,
but to be placed third in the world is not
an easy task. It requires focus, experience
and courage, maybe even a miracle.
So
it came as no surprise when 15-year-old
Jamaica College student Ramone Williamson
stated he was 'overwhelmed with joy' when
he placed third in last year's United States
(US) Martial Arts Open.
His
placing in the event, held from July 4-9
in Orlando Florida, came just two years
after being introduced to the sport.
Initially,
Ramone said he felt confident but thought
that his chances were slim because students
in the US had more experience.
"We
only get to attend four tournaments per
year while they attend one every month,"
he explained.
Benefits
This
'inexperience', however, served him well
as it conditioned him to expect the unexpected.
The active fourth-former plans to continue
martial arts because it helps him to keep
fit and focused.
He
not only does martial arts but is also a
member of the Duhaney Park Football Club
and is the first vice president of his school's
student council body. In his spare time,
he likes to chill with his friends and avoids
watching TV. His next goal is to improve
on his skills in order to become a black
belt, become a medical doctor and someday,
make the Busta Jamaica 'Dream Team' - Jamaica's
martial arts team that is currently ranked
number one in the world.
