Arianne Hammond, Youthlink Writer Having a crush is a rite of passage for every teenager. Whether 'hot' boy or 'cute' girl, having a crush is common and so is being crushed on by a crush. Crushes and heartbreak go hand in hand though. Luckily, Youthlink got the advice from Vivian McBean, a 15-year-old Campion College student, to help those of you who've had your hearts broken deal with the sadness during school. Vivian reminds us:
Arianne Hammond, Youthlink writer Teens are quick to label their peers. If a student always has a book in hand, he or she is a nerd, and the one who wins all the events on sports day is automatically a jock, and so on. So who is the teacher's pet? Can you sum it up in one or two sentences? You know you are a teacher's pet if ... "The teacher picks on you to lead the class in every activity he or she assigns."
Arianne Hammond, Youthlink Writer Losing a loved one, especially a close relative or caregiver, can be very hard to deal with at any age, but it is even more devastating during the teen years. Kimesha Hall, a 15-year-old Kingston Technical High School student, understands this issue quite well as she has a classmate going through a similar ordeal. Kimesha says:
Regina Bish, Youthlink Writer 1. Would you rather lose all your old memories OR never be able to make new ones? Lose Old Memories - 36%Can't Make New Ones - 64% "I'd rather lose all my old memories and make new ones because there are a lot of things in my past that I'd like to forget. This would be the perfect opportunity to do so and move on with my life."
Arianne Hammond, Youthlink Writer The point of going to school is to get an education, and your progress at school is measured via tests. Even though you studied or 'read', you still didn't pass the dreaded test/exam. For this reason, Dalton Davidson, 18-year-old pre-university student, tells how to handle a failing grade. Dalton Davidson says: 1. Take failures as lessons to success.
Arianne Hammond, Youthlink Writer All teens want to be cool and fit into the social hierarchy within their schools, but because some always have a book in their hands they're automatically seen as nerds, and those who win every sporting event become instant jocks. How do you classify your peers? Can you spot the stars and sum them up in one or two sentences? How do you know if you are a star? You know you are a star if ... "You know you are a star when you're smart, talented, AMBITIOUS and also radiant."
Regina Bish, Youthlink Writer We've all had to make difficult choices in life, many of which are directly related to or concerning school or campus life. Here are four mind-boggling, school-related questions to make you go: "Hmmm, which would I choose?" They certainly made these teens think.
Arianne Hammond and Jovan Legister, Youthlink Writers The Youthlink team recently travelled to St Ann to unwind after the hectic workload involved in publishing a magazine of exceptional quality. Our trip took us to two of our favourite places: Prospect Plantation and Dolphin Cove.
Cathalena Henry, Contributor The start of the menstrual cycle is the most important change to take place in girls during their teenage years, and menstrual hygiene is a vital aspect of health education during this time. Despite the regular hygiene practices, girls could still be lacking in good menstrual hygiene care.
