My special Burger King story

Kareem LaTouche, Youthlink Coordinator

This year Burger King celebrates 35 years of service to Jamaica. Burger King has been a staple in so many lives, whether as students, parents for business and social occasions. Here, some readers share their “special Burger King experiences”.

DEPENDABLE AND AWESOME

“‘Home’ is one word I could use to describe Burger King. Some of the best days of my life Burger King has been a part of. They’ve been there for me since childhood, whether it was going to birthday parties and playing in the ball pit, sliding down the slides, or working hard to get good grades in school so I could go to Burger King to get my crown hat and my favorite kid’s meal, chilling with friends and late-night cravings.

“Even throughout my college years, Burger King was always the first option among my friends and I. The customer service has always been excellent and the staff members pleasant. Throughout this time, Burger King has remained affordable, consistent and, best of all, delicious. I always know where to go when I want some great customer service and affordable food.

“Thank you for always being there. Always dependable and always aaaaawwwwesome.”

BEST BURGERS, HANDS DOWN!

“Burger is always my first choice on any menu presented, and Burger King has always been a part of my meal routine. I have tried many burgers over the years, and Burger King is the only burger that has been guaranteed to surpass my expectation in taste since 1989.

If I am ever indecisive about my meal of choice, Burger King has never disappointed. To be short, I always enjoy Burger King’s meals. It allows me to relive some happy, youthful experiences. Just close my eyes and enjoy the burst of flavours, fused together with a huge smile on my face. #whopperwithbaconcheeseandfires#burgerking.”

HAPPY MEMORIES

“This brings back such happy memories. Burger King in Kingston was our food and hangout joint on a Friday evening. We got dressed in our “daisy dukes” and headed to Burger King.

“Our burger had to be well done with lettuce, salad, ketchup, relish and mustard. Onion rings and a Pepsi completed the order.

“My mouth waters in recollection: We opened up our burger and squeezed all the dressings on both sides … put the bun back on and … savoured every bite … with sounds of satisfaction. Mmmhh!

“When we done eat the burger, we just hung out and chat … nibbling on the onion rings and sipping the Pepsi.

The ‘good old days’, as we sometimes say. Ever so often, over the years … up to a week ago … I still go into Burger King and relish the burger I do so enjoy … no cheese, please! No hang-out!”

– R. CHRISTENE KING, JOURNALIST/MOTIVATIONAL SPEAKER

AFFORDABLE STUDENT LIVING

“Being a University of the West Indies (UWI) student enrolled in the Faculty of Law can be quite hectic and demanding. With these early-morning classes, sometimes I am not afforded the opportunity to make breakfast. However, I can always count on Burger King to step in when my stomach starts rumbling.

“The branch located on the Mona campus is in close proximity to the Faculty of Law, making it a favourite eating house for many law students, including myself. On a daily basis, having only an hour recess before another class commences, Burger King is my ideal stop, as I get to enjoy a great meal without having to worry about being late for another class. This is by virtue of the wonderful staff that are always eager to ensure that the meals are prepared in a timely manner.

“During exam periods, studying late at the library, it is not all the time that I have enough money to purchase my favourite, the American chicken sandwich. But, I am still able to get a small salted fries and a cup of refreshing soda that goes a long way. Imagine getting a meal for only $300.

“Burger King always let me have it my way!”

– PATRICE SMITH, LAW STUDENT, UNIVERSITY OF THE WEST INDIES

GREAT FAMILY TIME

“Growing up, going to Burger King in Montego Bay was an adventure, because my family and I would have to drive all the way from Westmoreland (one hour). When Burger King finally came to Savanna-la-Mar in Westmoreland, it was the most wonderful thing to not have to drive all the way to Montego Bay for burgers, wonderful fries and nuggets!

“Going to Burger King on Saturdays with my tutorial group after a long day of studying was always wonderful, but my best Burger King experience happened about 18 months ago. It was the best experience there for sentimental reasons, but showed that all ages love Burger King! Anyway, on that day, my tutorial teacher, who I now call “aunt”, my mom, my two children and myself went to have lunch! One child was six, and the other was nine months at the time. My aunt is a vegetarian, my mom doesn’t eat beef, I am not partial, but you know that kids are picky and don’t eat everything. We were each able to find something that we loved, but one thing I noticed was that we ran out of fries first.

“The food was great, the mood was casual, and no one was bothered by children laughing or crying. I felt comfortable and left with a full tummy while not having to feel bad that someone didn’t have anything they could eat.

“Sentimental yes, because the best experience was spending time with my family, and technically, it was a girls’ day out with those I love!”
